Dr. Sumi attained her medical degree from the University of Melbourne. She undertook specialist training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and went onto complete a two-year lymphoma and malignant haematology fellowship at Monash Health, one of the largest haematology clinical trial centres in Victoria for haematological malignancies. Sumi also worked at Peter MacCallum's Aggressive Lymphoma and Trials unit in 2019-2020. She has experience in treating patients with CAR T cells, bispecific antibodies and other novel therapies.

Sumi is currently a senior consultant at University Hospital Geelong and is experienced in treating a wide range of haematological malignancies and disorders. She is the principal investigator for several international and Australian clinical trials. She is interested in clinical education and is a senior Clinical Lecturer at Deakin University. Sumi is also interested in supporting excellence in the field of haematology through professional development, advocacy and independent education. She is the current Victorian director for the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ). Sumi has published in peer reviewed journals and presented at local meetings and international conferences.

Sumi treats a wide array of malignant and non malignant haematology including thrombosis, cytopenia and coagulation disorders.
