Dr Teresa MacDonald cares deeply about women's health and about ensuring women are fully informed about their medical management and options, taking the time required to explain the evidence behind her recommendations. Teresa takes a patient-centred approach prioritising families’ wishes for their care and works with patients to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Teresa is committed to reducing preventable stillbirth, and her PhD research focused on new ways to better assess placental function, fetal growth and wellbeing, and pregnancy risk. Since her PhD was awarded in 2019, Teresa’s research continues as she develops checkpoints of placental health. Teresa’s research program is funded by an NHMRC investigator fellowship, and by the 2024-2026 Norman Beischer Clinical Research Fellowship.
Teresa specialises in closely monitoring fetal growth and wellbeing with ultrasound. She prides herself on individualised labour management and working with patients to best achieve their ideal birth.
Teresa is involved in obstetric education. She is currently an examination director for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG), overseeing examinations that all obstetrics and gynaecology trainees must sit.
