Dr William Chung MBBS BMedSci FRACP is a Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Endoscopist who is a consultant specialist at the Austin Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. William obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne and is currently a PhD candidate with a project in liver cancer research.
William has broad interests in hepatology (liver medicine), endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancer screening, liver cancer screening and treatment, viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and C), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, iron deficiency anaemia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. William visits Goulburn Valley Health, Shepparton fortnightly for clinic and endoscopy lists. He has assisted in the development of an Inflammatory Bowel Disease service there.
William has completed further training overseas, including a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital in London, United Kingdom (2019-2020). His other international experience includes a month-long observership at the Gastroenterology department at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University, United Kingdom (2014). During medical school he completed a month-long sub-internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, United States and received a High Honours/High Recommendation grading (2012).
