About
Dr Lucas Annabell is a subspecialty trained paediatric and adult orthopaedic surgeon. He has completed fellowships at the Royal Children's Hospital, Boston's Children's Hospital, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, specialising in hip preservation, paediatric oncology, limb reconstruction, paediatric trauma, and general paediatric orthopaedics.
His specific interests include adolescent and young adult hip conditions, including dysplasia, Perthes, slipped capital femoral epiphyses, and femoroacetabular impingement, and has trained specifically to perform periacetabular osteotomies, femoral osteotomies, surgical hip dislocations, and other complex operations about the hip. He has also trained in numerous limb reconstruction operations, including dealing with benign and malignant tumours, limb salvage, rotationplasty, limb lengthening, guided growth, rotational abnormalities, limb deficiencies, and bone dysplasias.
Lucas enjoys overseas volunteer work and has been on orthopaedic outreach trips to Samoa, Vietnam, and Alaska. He has taught medical students from the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University, and Harvard University, as well as registrars in both Australia and the USA, and is a registered University of Melbourne examiner.
