Dr Sutherland is a respiratory and sleep physician with interests in allergy, asthma and sleep apnoea.
He is in full time private practice at the Epworth and, as such, is able to provide both an outpatient and inpatient service. He has onsite lung function testing and skin testing in his rooms and endeavours to thoroughly assess the patient's needs on the first visit to develop a personalised management plan using the latest diagnosis and treatment. By being on site, he is also able to look after inpatients and consult on the wards in general respiratory medicine, teach medical students and to also participate in the Epworth Thoracic Cancer and Radiology multidisciplinary meetings to provide optimal management of complex cases. He also has access to the Epworth Sleep Laboratory for the diagnosis and management of sleep apnoea.
Dr Sutherland is an honorary senior lecturer at both the University of Melbourne and Monash University. He has published research papers on biologics in severe asthma, thunderstorm asthma and immunotherapy in allergic rhinitis.
