Dr Rekha Ganeshalingam is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in both adult and paediatric conditions. Her general orthopaedic training was complemented by time spent at the SickKids Hospital in Toronto, Starship Children’s Hospital in New Zealand, and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Dr Ganeshalingam has a particular clinical interest in:
- Sports knee surgery, including ACL reconstruction, meniscal tear management, and patellofemoral joint instability
- Total hip replacements
- Total knee replacements, including robotic-assisted techniques
- Paediatric orthopaedics, with experience across a broad range of childhood musculoskeletal conditions
She holds a public appointment at University Hospital Geelong and an Honorary position at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. Dr Ganeshalingam completed orthopaedic fellowship training in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victorian hospitals.
In addition to her clinical work, she is a strong advocate for diversity and flexibility in the orthopaedic training system and is actively involved in mentoring junior doctors and medical students. She is chair of the Victorian paediatric Orthopaedic network and has contributed to the development of Clinical Practice Guidelines at both the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and SickKids Hospital, Toronto. Her research has been published in international medical journals, and she continues to lead local projects aimed at optimising patient care.
