About
Mr Dirk van Bavel is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in all aspects of hip and knee surgery including arthroscopy, replacement and revision. He was trained in Melbourne, but following this spent another 2 and a half years completing fellowships under world renowned surgeons in Belgium, England and Canada. Here he learnt the latest advances in sports knee surgery, primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery as well as all areas of patellofemoral surgery. He is actively involved in research, training and education. With professor Ross Crawford he has been running the Australian Exeter training workshops annually since 2012. In recent years Mr van Bavel has become one of the leading surgeons in Robotic joint replacement surgery performing the first Robotic knee replacement in Victoria. He is a faculty member for the teaching of Robotic Total knee, Total hip and partial knee replacement surgery. He was also part of the LMR team for Functional hip replacement surgery using the MAKO robot. Mr van Bavel is currently completing a Masters in Clinical Research through the University of Melbourne.
