Presentation 1 - Breast surgery updates - screening for women with high mammographic density and omission of sentinel lymph node biopsy for early breast cancers
Presented by Dr Jocelyn Lippey, Breast Surgeon

The recent changes to mammographic density reporting from BreastScreen will be discussed as well as the implications for screening recommendations. Women with early, presumed node negative oestrogen receptor breast cancers can safely have less treatment including omission of sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Presentation 2 - Updates in breast cancer from a general practice perspective: Access to genetic testing, management of endocrine therapy toxicities and association of GLP-1 agonists with breast cancer incidence.
Presented by Dr Elizabeth Blackley, Medical Oncologist

Dr Blackley will cover some of the common issues encountered by general practitioners including updated guidelines and accessibility of genetic testing for patients with a family history of breast cancer, management of common endocrine therapy toxicities and recent data on the use of GLP-1 agonists in breast cancer.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Explain the impact of high mammographic density on mammographic screening and discuss pros and cons of supplemental imaging options
  2. Summarise trends towards de-escellation in the management of early breast cancer
  3. Outline strategies to manage common side effects of endocrine therapy including vasomotor symptoms such as hot flushes, mood and cognitive changes vaginal dryness and joint pain.
  4. Explain the potential impact of GLP-1 agonists on breast cancer risk
